The story of DJ's apple juice and Tempted? Cider coming to be... Once upon a time there was a man called Davy Uprichard, who had an idea. He wanted to make something people would enjoy eating (or drinking). He already grew plants for a living, so maybe he would grow more fruit and vegetables for people to grow in their gardens, along side the plants they already bought from his nursery. (Hollybrook Nursery, 227 Moira Road, Lisburn BT28 2TP) No, Davy wanted a challenge. If he wasn't going to grow the food himself he would need a local supplier… Question: | What was grown locally in Northern Ireland that could be made into something Davy would like to produce?
| Answer: | Armagh Apples could be made into CIDER! |
Davy had his idea in 2008. Lots of good ideas never amount to much, but not this one. In November 2009 dj's juice and cider pressed their first apples at their new purpose built Cidery in Agars Road Lisburn. Davy didn't work alone; he set up a family business and called it dj's juice and cider ('dj's' pronounced like the people who play music on the radio). The name is made up of the initials of the members of his family, D (Davy), J (Janet and Jenni) and S (Sara). While dad is the craftsman in the enterprise, mum works along side him and their daughters help out with design and publicity.
The family is proud of its products and know you will enjoy drinking them and sharing them with your family and friends. |
